THE MANDATORY PLANNING MEETING
There is a mandatory planning meeting for each monthly camping trip, typically the Monday before the trip. Everyone going on the camping trip MUST attend the mandatory meeting. If there is an important reason why you cannot attend the manddatory planning meeting, please let the scout leader (Amber Ackerman) know as soon as possible. You may be able to attend the meeting virtually or someone may be tasked with contacting you after the meeting with important details.
At the mandatory planning meeting we discuss equipment / clothing individuals should pack for the specific activities we will do on the trip.
PLANNING WITHIN PATROLS
Trip participants will then break into camping groups, known as patrols. A patrol leader will facillitate specific plans for their patrol.
The written notes should be shared with the whole patrol via text and/or the “band” app.
- tenting arrangements will be made (how many tents, who is sharing a tent)
- tent assignments will be made (who is assigned which tent – make sure to check tent!)
- meals will be planned out, including a dessert (dietary restrictions accommodated).
- Note, budget is $15 per person per day (approx $8 per person each dinner, $4 per person each lunch, $3 per person each breakfast)
- the duty roster will be mapped out
THE DUTY ROSTER FOR EACH PATROL
When mapping out the duty roster, the following will be discussed:
- who is cooking each meal
- who is cleaning up after each meal
- who is in charge of the fire/wood/shovel/bucket for the trip
- who is shopping for the food (usually chef(s)) – save and submit receipts!
- who is taking the patrol bin (cookware bin) home to clean and organize and restock after trip (make sure to check bin!)
- who is taking the camping stove home to clean after trip
- who is in charge of ensuring dishwashing supplies and larger pots come on trip
- who is in charge of dutch oven bin for the trip (make sure to check bin!)
Here is a typical Scouting BSA Duty Roster where a lot of this planning can be documented:
THE PATROL BIN
The cookware bin is known as the patrol bin. It is vital that this is fully stocked and clean before and after every camping trip. Click here for the Patrol Bin Inventory.
CARPOOL
After the planning meeting, carpool details are discussed via the “band” app.
If you drive, please let the treasurer (Chris Krauth) know, so that you can be re-imbursed for mileage
