Summer Camp Packing

Changes / additions to the general camping packing list are below

Leave behind:

  • Tents and cots provided so leave behind tents (sleep pad could aid comfort)
  • Meals provided in cafeteria so leave behind mess kit
  • Devices (cellphones are OK for pictures and geocaching, or for inside the tent during specific designated blocks of downtime)
  • Food/snacks (there are many rodents and ants!)

Additional items:

  • enough troop 29 shirts to wear one every day
  • full Class A uniform for flag cermonies and for arrival photograph
  • 2 x swimsuits that are not going to cause a wardrobe mishap during rigorous water sports (i.e. not stringy bikinis).
  • extra towels
  • additional money ($90 for week covers treats PLUS souvenir t-shirt and a crafting kit, so please ask your kid not to spend all of that on treats, or please send much less)
  • sun hat / cap
  • shower shoes

Specific items to bring:

  • Specific to Camp Bert Adams:
  • Specific to Camp Woodruff:
    • bring lake shoes as there is no pool, only a lake
    • If horse-back riding: bring long pants and boots with a low and flat heel (or sneakers in a pinch)
    • If whitewater-rafting: bring lake shoes with closed toe and heel strap (or old sneakers in a pinch), quick-dry shorts and shirt, floatie strap for any glasses.
  • Specific to Boonesboro Village at Camp Daniel Boone:
    • books/games/crafts/fishing rod/acoustic instrument for down-time
    • solar charger or extra batteries (there is no electricity or cell signal)
    • smaller bills for tavern nights ($1 for most snacks/drinks)
    • Note, only bring swimwear if willing to walk a long way to an ice-cold lake
    • clothing for theme days (dress as if you are in the late 1700s)
      • german day, spanish day, pirate day, frontiersman/pioneer day, scottish day.

Optional items to bring:

  • lantern for tent
  • rashguards and goggles and swim shorts / quick dry shorts
  • frisbee/ball
  • Hammock for resting in
  • coathanger for class A uniform
  • consider rain cover for daypack (or lining daypack with a trashbag)
  • cooling fan with batteries
  • cooling towel
  • NOTE: the tents provided at Woodruff and Bert Adams do not fully seal, so bugs get inside them. The “Sans bug” mosquito net/tube is highly recommended!
