WHEN / WHERE?
The troop will spend one week in June at a scout camp (e.g. Bert Adams or Woodruff scout camp). Recently it has been the second week in June (early enough not to be too hot, but not the first week so the kinks have been worked out by camp staff).

For Woodruff a carpool is usually arranged. For Bert Adams it is so close that it is family preference for how the scout gets to and from camp. Check in at camp is Sunday lunch time (or early afternoon), and Check out of camp is very very early Saturday morning (everyone gone by 8am). For Bert Adams, some parents prefer to pick up their scout on Friday evening instead of Saturday morning.
WHO GOES? CAN I GO?
Typically the youth and two or three adult chaperones camp in one of the campsites at the camp. Tents and cots are provided. Meals are in the cafeteria.
If youth want to return for a second week of camp, they can attend for half price. This is a very good deal. The scout leader (Amber Ackerman) will let scouts know when other girl troops are going to be at camp, as it is likely that these other troops will welcome Troop 29 scouts join them for the week as if they are members of their troop.
WHAT DO WE DO THERE?
Between breakfast and dinner each day the youth work on merit badges such as kayaking, small boat sailing, movie making, chess, swimming, leatherworking……These are chosen in advance in collaboration with the Scoutleader (Amber Ackerman). The scoutleader must register the scouts for the various courses.
There is also free time where scouts can swim and play on the inflatable course in the lake at woodruff, or eat too much candy at the camp store, or join free swim, or perfect the skills they have been learning in their classes. There are deliberately so many activities scheduled that no scout can manage to do all of them while they are at camp!
While the scouts are in merit badge classes, the adults can rest, do some volunteer work (volunteering in the cafeteria or at the shooting range etc), sign up for classes such as first aid and paddlecraft safety….. Adults can go for the whole week or can split the week with another adult. Adults are in charge of the youth in their troop when the youth are not in their classes/activities (before 7am, at lunch, and after 9pm). All campers must be in their campsite between 9pm and 7am.
