The Scout Uniform

  • Uniform pieces can be purchased from the online Scout Shop (or the physical scout shop is near the Atlanta Braves Stadium). HOWEVER, we have plenty of gently used uniform pieces. Please see the scoutmaster (Amber Ackerman) or the uniform closet coordinator for more details on gently used uniforms.

  • The Official Scouts BSA Field Uniform (formerly known as Class A) Shirt is the expected attire at Troop Meetings (September – May) and while traveling. Field uniform attire is also required for Boards of Review (BoR) and Courts of Honor. The official pants are not required, any dark green pants/shorts/skort are acceptable. Jeans are also acceptable. Please wear closed toe shoes with either closed heels or a heel strap. A Scout belt and socks are also encouraged. The cap is not necessary. Athletic wear is not acceptable at times when official uniforms are to be worn..

  • A Scout neckerchief, along with a slide to fix it in place, will be presented by the Troop when the scout joins. Note, the color o fthe slide represents the level of experience the scout has within the troop. Here is a graphic showing how to wear it!

  • A merit badge sash may be worn with the official shirt uniform at any time to display merit badges earned, and should be worn to all Boards of Review (the last step for rank advancement) or Courts or Courts of Honor (the celebration awards dinners to celebrate all rank advancements and merit badges earned since the last court of honor).

  • The Activity Beads and Leather Belt loop At the periodic Court of Honor awards dinners, the scouts are often also awarded beads. Each bead signifies an achievement or experience (e.g. a train for getting some kind of training, or a bead of a certain color if they camped in below freezing weather). These beads can be hung on a string off a leather belt loop that is attached to their scout uniform belt. There are regular opportunities at weekly meetings to make a new leather belt loop (they can get moldy when wet, so the opportunities to make new ones are relatively frequent).

  • The Activity Uniform (formerly known as Class B) Troop 29 t-shirt will be worn to meetings during the Summer months (June – August) and these may be worn for certain outdoor and other activities as appropriate. Hats not required. Class B shirts will be provided to new Scouts after payment of their initial activity fee.
